Mawaali Revisted

I was looking at clips of this again, and I couldn't resist posting this. This is the "long-lost brother" of the other guy.

I laughed all over again!

It's Me... I Did It

When I first arrived in Toronto, I had been told that the winter had been unusually mild. I was glad to have a warm winter for my first year in Canada. But two days after I arrived, the temperature dropped suddenly and stayed freezing cold until May. Like, "I think my lungs are actually going to be frozen in place and then I won't be able to breathe" cold. But then there were some summer storms that wouldn't seem to go away. Luckily, I was scheduled for a visit to Utah. What happens immediately after leaving? Beautiful days in Toronto, the best there has been in weeks. And what happens in Utah? Storms...

I thought that perhaps all of the weather has been a coincidence, until this last trip to Utah. We had horrible weather in Toronto, including a huge snow storm, and it has been sooo cold. I hated to even walk outside. So I come home for Christmas. And the weather turns warm. People are walking around outside, having a good old time with the weather. Just my luck. And then a sudden snowstorm in Utah confirms my newfound ability. There were tons of accidents, and I feel kind of guilty.

I make bad weather. I am pretty much like Storm from X-Men. But I haven't learned to control my powers yet. Maybe I need to think of a name for myself. It has to be cooler than Storm. Maybe something like Ice Freeze, or Blizzard. Or would that sound too much like a Dairy Queen treat? Hmmm...

As they say, with great power comes great responsibility. I have to do something good for someone...

I wonder if I could make it warm enough to get a tan before I go?

A Saturday with Bonny

Saturdays are always the busiest day of the week. I usually get all the grocery shopping done and try to fit some fun stuff in too, but that doesn't always happen. But last Saturday, since we won't be together on Christmas, JM and I celebrated it together and just had a fun day.

12:00 to 1:00 - We exchanged gifts. It was fun! We ate some cinnamon rolls that I had made earlier, in front of the mini-tree.

1:00 to 3:00 - Caught a subway to run a few small errands. I didn't mind, as long as we didn't go to Walmart, I was happy.

3:00 to 6:00 - Go to the Eaton Centre to do a bit of shopping. But first we ate at Jimmy the Greek. It is like a Greek fast food chain. But it's pretty yummy, and it one of my favorite places to eat at the Eaton Centre. After lunch, we saw the huge tree that they had decorated there, sponsored by Swarovski, with tons of crystals all over the tree. It is totally gorgeous. We took some pictures, which I'll post on another day. Here is one that I got off of Google.

Next stop... Sephora. It's like heaven. I wanted to buy everything. Thoughts of my budget were flying out of my head, so I ran out. I had to, or I would have spent too much. Same thing with The Body Shop which was after that. I had to leave the entire mall, before I became too weak.

6:00 to 7:00- We run home to get ready to see "I Am Legend." We always bring movie treats from home. I am firmly against buying candy and drinks at the theatre. They are way too overpriced.

7:00 to 9:30- "I Am Legend" was an okay movie. I thought it was pretty scary, but the plot wasn't at all anything new. It was basically the same as "Omega Man" and "The Last Man on Earth." (Can you tell JM is a fan?)

Overall, it was a pretty good day. But this is far from a normal Saturday. Oddly enough, it feels like Christmas is over. I guess I need to re-inject some Christmas cheer, or I'll be a bore.

Movie Review: Mawaali

I was practically forced to watch this movie with JM last weekend. Okay, not forced, but it was "let's watch this movie or go to Wal-mart." I chose the movie, of course. This movie is not as bad as Ajooba, but it was rather horrible.
I have many things to say about this in particular, but as a general question to the whole Bollywood movie genre, I wonder why there aren't many attractive Indian actors. In the movies that I've seen, all the actresses are drop-dead gorgeous, but the men are like... gross. They all seem to be dirty old men. That being said, I usually end up watching movies from the 70's or 80's. There were a lot of old dirty men back then, I guess. But I KNOW that there are attractive Indian men out there. Why are none of these delicious looking men in Bollywood fliks? I guess I'll never know.
As far as this movie goes, there was a typical Bollywood plot. Two men who look exactly alike, find each other and use that fact to be places where the other can't be. They love two different girls, and have to pretend to be each other. One is accused of killing his girlfriend's father, who is also his boss. He goes to prison, but while there switches places with the other man who looks like him. He does this so he can get his girlfriend out of marrying her jerk of a cousin. He ends up eloping with this girl, but then right after sneaks back into jail because he promised this other guy that he wouldn't stay away for too long. Confused yet? Ha... In the end, you find out that they really are twins, separated at birth. The nurse stole one of the babies, just because she wanted one. Apparently, the real mother didn't even know that she had twins at all. Odd...
And of course, there is the obligatory singing and dancing. The lead actor in the movie is a horrible dancer. I have included a song from the movie for you to enjoy. You don't need to watch the whole scene to know how bad this man dances. Also notice the "dirty old man" vibe.

Enjoy! At least it's good for a laugh.

Code: Yummy!!

We were sitting my couch watching a movie the other night, JM mostly asleep, when the following ad came on TV. It was a commercial for "ER" reruns.

"Have you been suffering from frequent heart palpitations?? Do you have difficulty breathing, followed by increased libido? If so you may have a case of... Noah Syndrome." Then there was a flashing

CODE: YUMMY!!

This was followed by equally interesting descriptions of "La Salle Syndome" and "Clooney Syndrome."

At this point, JM groggily says, "Do I have Noah Syndrome?" After me laughing to tears for a couple of minutes, JM woke up all the way and he felt rather silly.
To give him credit, he has been sick lately. He often worries that it's something more serious than it is. I guess he just heard the "syndrome" and wondered out loud if he had it. :P
Even as I write this, I am laughing to myself. I'm never going to let him hear the end of it!!

Boredom and False Creativity

I was bored out of my mind today, so I decided that I wanted to be creative. Maybe write some poetry, a short story, or something to the like. (Yes, I was extremely bored.) But while I was looking up poetry tips, I found a poetry generator from Google, (it's a madlib pretty much). This is so much easier than actually being creative!! But I guess not as fulfilling. Oh well!! Here's my "masterpiece."

My Love

Your skin glows like the strawberries, blossoms soft as the daisy in the purest hope of spring.
My heart follows your guitar voice and leaps like a lion at the whisper of your name.
The evening floats in on a great swan wing.
I am comforted by your sweater that I carry into the twilight of thumbtackbeams and hold next to my wrist.
I am filled with hope that I may dry your tears of milk.
As my stomach falls from my shirt, it reminds me of your phone.
In the quiet, I listen for the last ring of the day.
My heated toes leaps to my evening gown. I wait in the moonlight for your secret computer so that we may run as one, toes to toes, in search of the magnificient blue and mystical day planner of love.

Toronto, I'm Sorry

I feel kinda bad for my rant yesterday. I don't hate Toronto all that much. There are alot of things unfood-related that are really good.

-There is a lot to do! There is always something going on. I love that. That might just be the advantages of a big city, but it's one of my favorite things.

-There are a lot of places to visit within walking distance. My favorite place to run (hah!) is near Casa Loma. It's just down the street (and up a hill, which is killer if I'm actually running).

-Chinatown!!! I love Chinatown. If you are looking to save
money, this is totally the place to go. But there is no guarantee that what you buy won't break tomorrow.

-The Eaton Centre. It's pretty much the biggest mall I've ever seen. I suppose the Mall of America is bigger, but I am satisfied with this. And across the street, they have some sort of festival every weekend. In the summer, we went to: the China Fest, DesiFest, Children's Fair, and a couple of free concerts. We have even watched Beyonce here for free! Amazing!

-I love the culture. There are probably people from every country in the world here. I love that so much! Get on the subway, I'll bet you'll hear about 10 languages.

Anyways, Toronto. You're not all bad. I'll come back to visit after I've moved far, far, far away.

Complaints of Shopping in Toronto

The first time I went shopping for groceries in Toronto, I came home in tears. The closest grocery store in Dominion (creepy name for a grocery store, I think). It has the almost average the amount of groceries that normal stores have, but it's stuffed into a building half the size. The aisles are so small that not even 2 of the miniature sized carts (I haven't seen the big Utah Walmart-sized carts since leaving Utah, not even at Walmart) can fit in the aisle next to each other. There is usually only 3 or 4 cashiers open and so the lines are winding around into the produce and bakery sections. I guess to make a long story short, I get extremely claustrophobic in this store. I hate Dominion, but I have to make do because it's the closest store there is, and I don't have a car!! (I miss my car.) This is just one of my many complaints about shopping in Toronto, but here are a few more.

-Shopping is so expensive!! Seven bucks for a gallon (or whatever the metric equivalent is) of milk? I don't think so! Even though the Canadian dollar is worth more than the US dollar, we've still got significantly higher prices.

-My favorite condiment? Pace Picante Sauce. Do they have it here? NO!

-No pumpkin chocolate chip cookies ANYwhere. These are my favorite cookies, and I can't find them. I broke down and made them last week. They were surprisingly easy, but still...

-A freaking can of refried beans is almost $3. I mean it's not that much, but out of principle, I won't buy it.

-I can't make refried beans, because they don't sell pinto beans ANYWHERE! What the hell??

-All I want is turkey bacon. Is that too much to ask? I can't find it anywhere.

-The cheap grocery store: No Frills. I hate this place so much, but it's got the cheapest stuff around. Why do I hate it?
-They take cash only. I never have cash.
-You want to carry your groceries home in bags. Well, pay up because bags are not free.
-It's soooo crowded. Think of Super Walmart on a Saturday afternoon, ALL THE TIME!
-There seem to be a lot of crazy old people that shop there. And stare at me...

I guess the one good thing about shopping in Toronto is that I have learned to use reusable shopping bags. Walking home or riding the subway with those crappy plastic bags is torture, as the plastic cuts into your skin after holding it for so long. But with reusable bags, it's a lot easier to carry and you can fit more in a bag! AND I'm saving the world by not having all that plastic wasted. I am trying to be more environmentally aware. I think this is something I want to keep doing. I like not having a plastic bag stash under the sink. :P Everybody get reusable shopping bags!!!
